The WMJGS is a chapter of the International Association Of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) The IAJGS sponsors an annual conference that brings together novices and experts in genealogical research at locations around the globe … from Washington, D.C. to Jerusalem. Several WMJGS members have attended these gatherings and are happy to share information about the benefits of participating.
WMJGS works closely with the Greater Boston Jewish Genealogical Society, the only other chapter of the IAJGS in Massachusetts.
Our members receive copies of the GBJGS newsletter, MassPocha, and occasionally our meetings feature presentations by GBJGS members.
We will be working closely with the Boston chapter in coming months on a book to be published by Avotaynu with a working title "Jewish Genealogical Resources in the U.S. and Canada."
The intent is to compile as complete a list as possible of specifically Jewish genealogical resources, many of them not easily known or discovered.
Through the generous financial support of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, the WMJGS was able to build a resource collection at the Forbes Library in Northampton; the materials are available to all in the Library’s reference section. This collection includes a large variety of helpful books as well as on-line access to the databases JewishGen, AncestryPlus, and HeritageQuest
Information about the Library’s hours can be found here.
